This site documents Richard Downing's work with found objects and materials to create 'interactive ecologies' for public engagement. Drawing upon the films of Fichli and Weiss, these events differ, significantly, by being conducted live, drawing time, impermanence, failure and risk into the ecological mix. Deliberately playful in spirit, this play engages a peculiarly humane urge to order and organise against probability, where challenges are posed for the joy of exercising the creative imagination. In such contexts, the roles of 'maker' 'performer' and 'spectator' also tend to blur, and occasionally disappear.
